Dylan Face arrived in camp this afternoon with his family from Miami, Florida…thanks to his Mom’s quick research on Google maps and her good instincts about the potential of our resort to produce the right opportunity for her boys to fish Alaska style! The recent positive reviews on Google by other guests convinced her to choose our place and we fortunately had one site open to accommodate them. They had barely parked their rental RV and Dylan and his big brother had rental fishing poles from the Snack & Tack in their hands and with fresh flies tied on and a quick Kenai flip lesson from CJ they were ready to fish Alaska s salmon from our shore. Shortly after, I walked by and saw Dylan had hooked a rockfish pretty bad and I tried to help him get it loose but the fly broke off. He bought a twin pack of new custom flys from the twin’s shop and I helped show him how to tie it on, adjust his weights and get back in the water. What happened next amazed me but didnt surprise me at all… in less than 5 casts Dylan hooked up on a beautiful Sockeye salmon! CJ was there to coach him and prepare to net the fish, but this salmon was full of energy and ran several times before CJ could help land it. With Mom & Dad cheering on and video rolling, Dylan fought this salmon with everything he had and in the end he prevailed…the fish surrendering to CJ’s net and becoming fresh fillets of dinner fish and into the brine for the smokehouse. Way to feed the family young man! Could your smilin’ Mama be any more proud?
