A last minute trip to Homer turned into a day of fishing that brought all sorts of creatures from the deep! TJ & CJ woke ME up for a change to start the day and we were off on the ocean where they tested their sea legs and passed the test once again. Seas were bumpy on the way out, but as we started fishing the ocean laid down and went almost flat. CJ’s bait had barely hit the bottom when he reeled up what would be the first of many, many feeder halibut for everyone aboard. So many in fact that it was impossible to count. We returned many to the bountiful ocean to continue growing up and kept some nice prime eaters. Along the way we also caught a half dozen skates (sting ray like beasts, several of which TJ reeled up like a heavyweight trainer pumping iron and one of which broke off my line), another half dozen spiny dog fish sharks, two small ling cod, a handful of sea bass, some grey cod that became bait, and a greenling the produced walleye-like fillets. While trolling for salmon, CJ hooked and landed a nice ocean fresh sockeye salmon as well! All in all, a great day on the ocean and we’re looking forward to days of fresh fish creations like Halibut Parmesan Crouton Caesar Salad, Jalapeno Halibut Poppers, Sweet & Sour Halibut, Blackened Sea Bass, Coconut Salmon, Smoked Sockeye, and much much more!
