….and the first King Salmon ever caught off our 2 year old floating dock!  I finally figured out a way and I hope to show the video here soon on this page, but until then just one quick photo that we captured will have to do to prove it!  You see, it’s catch & release right now on the Kenai, so it’s a bit more difficult than usual to photograph these beautiful fish. I caught the two on a test with a new rigging and a favorite plug, both within about 30 minutes while enjoying a cup of coffee on this most beautiful day of summer with highs eventually topping out near 80 degrees!  The fishing was hot, the sun was hot….and the new rigging was hot too!  It’s been a goal of mine to catch all species of salmon and trout off our dock over the past two years since we first floated it (thanks again to our friends Remo & Claudio for their incredible help on that project!) and up till now I had caught all species EXCEPT for the hard-fighting, elusive, and at times in the past few years just plain scarce or even prohibited Chinook salmon, the big Daddy of all salmon.  But today it was accomplished and what a thrill it was. Cooper heard my call for a net man and came running BOTH times. He and Cindy joined in to fight the second King which ran to the end of our downriver neighbors property.  They eventually coaxed it back upriver and Cooper netted it nicely while Cindy handled the pole and I manned the camera from the coaching box.  What a thrill, it’s so nice to see Kings coming back to the Kenai in good numbers once again! Thank God!
