Despite the onset of steady showers, new friends arrived with Alaska roots from Seattle (rain doesn’t seem to bother folks from that city) ready to enjoy some time on the Kenai River relaxing and fishing. Our Rainbow campsite put them in close proximity to the river and we hoped it would bring some good luck for at least partly sunny skies and one of those beautiful rainbows that we’ve seen this summer….but alas that will have to wait until their next visit as the rain persists in Day 4 now with rarely a break worth mentioning. We did have a beautiful sunset one night for them to enjoy, and more importantly some nice fresh from the ocean Sockeye Salmon at the end of their lines. Fiona landed this nice one after proving her Alaska roots earlier in the morning by fighting and netting her first fish all by herself!  Michelle had a good fight with one that eventually swam out in the fast water and headed back to the ocean–just enough excitement we hope to entice her back next summer!  Thanks for soaking up our little bit of Alaska heaven, wet and all, and we look forward to seeing you again! Glad you enjoyed that taste of smoked salmon, enjoy your catch back home and check out the recipes in our Cooking Alaska Fish & Game blog!
