And just as Murphy’s law would suggest, the Sockeye are here at last — right after everyone in pursuit of them have left the river! August 1st brings a big change in our population of fishermen every year, with most folks pullin’ up stakes and heading out. And some years, like this one, the Sockeye Salmon seem to know it so they wait to come with their final push until all those pesky hooks are out of the water! Yesterday was about 38,000 and today looks to be well over 50,000 based on my own personal test fishing — landing 3 in about half hour and losing that many or more in the process. We topped a million fish yesterday — 1,028,000 Red Salmon have passed our shore so far in 2016. Despite the rain, it was a lot of fun to be one of the only people fishing the river with so many, so many, fresh Sockeye swimmin’ by! The kids and I all braved the rain and CJ landed a couple nice ones as well. More to come this evening I’m sure, just hope the rain lets up so we can enjoy it more!
Here They Come!
