We welcomed the Vaughn family this week on a last minute stay at Kenai Riverfront Resort….mostly because Mom Cathy was so gosh darn nice on the phone, and we’ll never look back from that decision! What a wonderful time we had getting to know this awesome family from “Deep in the heart of Texas”! They came with no knowledge of salmon fishing, but after some quick tips, a few rental poles, and some of TJ & CJ’s special hand-tied sockeye kriller flies, they quickly moved from beginners to pros! Each of them hooked their first Sockeye Salmon and in the end landed enough to fill a cooler to take home! But their stay was more about friendship found than just awesome fishing. Ukelele jamming by the campfire (thanks to Ryan & Anesley joining CJ on his Uke and me on guitar) and swimming with the salmon straight out of the Sauna — another 1st for Ryan Vaughn (both the sauna and the swim in the Kenai River). Sunshine, campfire, and happy camping right into the night with a full moon glowing on the Kenai River. The photos tell the rest of the story….see ya’ll again soon!
The Alaska Dream…Texas Style!
About the Author: The Alaska Dream
Our family of six has been living the Alaska Dream on the world famous Kenai River for the past 15+ years, enjoying the bounty of the land & sea in everything we do! All of our children were born in Alaska, and both of us have lived here for 30+ years. We love sharing the Alaska Dream with visitors from around the corner and around the world and we especially love to help families and children catch their 1st salmon, halibut or rainbow trout and learn how to care for it all the way through the process of cooking it in delicious gourmet Alaska fashion. Enjoy reading our Alaska Fishing Report, Cooking Alaska Fish & Game, Alaska Photo of the Week and other sections of our website The Alaska Dream and we hope to have the chance to help you experience YOUR Alaska Dream someday too!
