Finally getting a day off of work, Alli caught this nice 2nd run Kenai River Red Salmon and was determined to fillet it herself….under the direction of her master filleting brother CJ of course. Well, she proved quickly that she’s got the touch! She’ll be a master salmon surgeon in no time. I often tell people that want to learn how to fillet salmon that you have to ruin a lot of fillets before you master it, which is all too discouraging for most when you consider the effort it takes to catch these fish and the desire to care for it from river to table in a way that doesn’t destroy the beauty of the meat. Alli did it nicely on her first fish and we won’t have to turn it all into “smoker meat” because her fillets were clean and beautiful. Congrats on your catch and even more so on your fillet job…you make you’re Papi proud! (Mama too of course!)
