“…it’s true, absolutely true.  Earlier than any time in recent history, I landed this beautifully fresh Kenai River Sockeye Salmon with much help from my twin boys CJ & TJ early this afternoon here on the Riverfront. It’s hard NOT to get excited…even though we all know the “big” run is a few weeks or more away. We were just doing some camp chores when I decided to break out some fishing rods and give a few “test” flips. Cooper was working on one project nearby and Taylor was on another. When they heard the tell-tale cry of “Fish-On” they turned in disbelief, folllowed quickly by a confirming splash from the salmon and a “Where’s the Net?” from the boys! Needless to say, all work came to a stop for a few hours as we ALL grabbed fishing poles and enjoyed an afternoon of fishing in the sunshine. Cooper insisted on skinning & filleting this 1st Salmon of the Season, and definitely demonstrated that he hasn’t lost his touch! Maybe we’re all hungrier than the average bear coming out of hibernation, I don’t really know, but this salmon was deeeeeeliccccciouss coming off the hot grill with a sprinkle of cajun–one of our many favorite semi-secret family preparations. It was consumed so fast by all that we don’t even have a photo of this delicious dinner fish.  Did I mention how good it tasted? Delicious, simply delicious. I’ll have a couple of photos to share in a few days of the parts and pieces that are brining for the smokehouse. Not a bit of this fish went to waste!”
